Andrew Tate’s arrest
January 19, 2023
Andrew Tate, self-proclaimed “King of toxic masculinity,” has found himself right where he deserves to be. While officials investigate the accusation of human trafficking and rape charges against Andrew Tate, he is being held in jail in Romania. The investigation is being completed to gather information on Andrew Tate and his brother’s scam, which allegedly involved human trafficking and rape.
He was arrested December 29, 2022, on charges of rape and human trafficking. He originally stated that he moved from the UK to Romania because the “rape laws are more lenient.” It is rumored that the brothers would allow women to think that either brother was interested in pursuing relations, but then transport the women to live in full security homes where they were forced to act in pornography videos under violent threats. The videos of the girls would then be sold.
In Andrew Tate’s early 20s, he worked as a TV producer while completing kickbox training. He then went on to win world titles in professional kickboxing. Tate’s fame then grew when he started posting on social media and became an internet celebrity.
Andrew Tate has always had a tainted reputation in social media because of his sexist views and claims that he willingly posted. Back in 2017, Tate made a Twitter post regarding the Harvey Weinstein allegations that “if you put yourself in a position to be raped, you must bear some responsibility.” Tate has continued to share his disgusting opinions on women in the media.
His political and social views have been described as extremely misogynistic and have potential to radicalize males to act on these ideas. According to Vox, a news source which reported on Tate, the amount of sexual harassment and hate speech in the classrooms increased during the time that Tate’s videos circulated the internet. As a response, major social media platforms have banned his accounts.
Tate’s influence in the UK is much larger, and his influence on teenage boys was even larger. A school in South London had to correct misogynistic ideas learned from Tate and explained that it was because the boys had been “brainwashed.” Boys shared that some women are at fault in cases of rape and started agreeing with Tate’s backwards ideas.
His videos were found on Tik Tok and on his Instagram; however, both platforms banned Tate’s accounts. He gave sketchy advice and told his extremely sexist views on how men should be held higher than women, women should be treated as property, and how women should not be allowed to drive.
