The Fallston Golf Team will tee-off tomorrow morning as round one of states begins. After an undefeated season of 11 wins and 1 tie, the team will play head-to-head against other qualifiers in the 1A and 2A divisions. University of Maryland will hold the Semifinals tomorrow as well as the Finals on Wednesday. With the UCBAC Championship and Harford County Championship under their belt, the States Title will be the perfect trifecta to end the season.
Fallston has lined up their top golfers to compete in the match. Senior Lindsey Dettloff, the Women’s UCBAC Champion, will compete by herself for the women’s title. Having an average score of 92 strokes in 18 holes, the highlight of her season was qualifying for states. She strives to “improve on [her] short game,” hoping to “three putt four holes or less” in tomorrow’s match.
The men’s team has an impressive roster itself. Senior Alex Langford tied for first in the Men’s Harford County Championship. With an average score of 75 strokes in 18 holes, this veteran’s goal is to make the top five at states. His game plan is to “stay in the right mentality and not have high scores on certain holes.”
Noah Bark placed 2nd in the Harford County Championship, with a career average score of 76 strokes in 18 holes. The senior’s season highlight was placing 3rd in the UCBAC Championship, saying it “was the first time [he’s] been inside the top 3 of a field.”
The only player to have a hole in one, senior Joey Bolesta, plays an average of 85 strokes in 18 holes. He is hoping to improve his putting, chipping, and driving at this year’s states.
Completing the roster, the only Junior, Cameron Konkle shoots an 80 in 18 holes, having the most fun this season and striving to make it to the second round of states.
The Golf Team’s main goal in tomorrow’s match is to qualify for the second round and stay in the running for the Golf State Championship. Coach Michael Capozzoli looks forward to the team “being competitive with the best teams of Maryland.” After an undefeated season, he says they “have a pretty good chance” of making it to the final round and playing well in the State Finals. The University of Maryland will welcome the team for when they tee off tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. This season’s team raised the par for golf at Fallston High School.
