Every year, I and many others craft a list of overly ambitious resolutions, normally filled with hopes of a new workout regimen and getting rid of my horrible procrastination habits. But this year, that normal tradition has been given a little bit of a twist following a new TikTok trend. Many influencers have been creating their own lists of “Ins and Outs for 2024”. These lists consist of beauty products, lifestyle choices, fashion choices, and even mindsets. So, without further ado, here is my list of ins and outs for 2024.
Ins:
Bows-
Although the trend of bows did begin to rise in 2023, I think it is something that should continue into this new year. They are cute on bags, nails, jewelry, and in your hair. Bows channel a feminine energy that will be trendy this new year.
Lip Combos-
I know normally I do not put much thought into my lips when getting ready for the day – at most I’ll slap on a little bit of tinted Vaseline – but after watching some of my favorite influencers such as Rachel Wiseman (@rawmakeup on TikTok) and Ainara Torné (@ainaratorneg on TikTok) I have been converted. A little bit of lip liner and tinted lip oil goes a long way. My personal favorite is the NYX professional Makeup Long-lasting Slim Lip Pencil in the shade Nude Pink paired with the e.l.f. Glow Reviver Lip Oil in the shade Rose Envy.
Podcasts-
Although I’ve been an avid podcast listener for a few years now, I know many people are just now beginning to listen as many influencers have started their own in recent months. I love listening to podcasts on a long drive, while I’m doing chores, or even during a workout. To me I think it feels a little bit more stimulating than just listening to music and sometimes you can even get decent life advice. While most of my favorite podcasts revolve around true crime and current trends, there’s something for everyone, and I recommend you try it out.
Girly Pop Music-
I know very well that pop music has been on a steady decline over the last couple of years with genres like rap and alternative gaining lots of traction, but with the recent popularity of artists like Tate McRae, Sabrina Carpenter and Renee Rapp, pop stars are going to take over in 2024. Their music definitely embodies that confident feminine energy that were all hoping to gain this new year.
Thought-out outfits-
It is quite easy to get into the habit of rolling out of bed to put on my typical daily outfit of some variation of sweatpants and a sweatshirt. In this new year, over dressing is in because let’s be honest, how productive can you really be in Pj pants and a ratty sweatshirt? This year we should all strive to dress cuter, accessorize better, and color coordinate always.
Outs:
Retail therapy-
As much as I love dropping half of my paycheck on shirts I will wear once just to feel something in 2024, saving is in, especially for us seniors as we have quite a few expenses coming up. Between prom and buying dorm stuff, it is time for us to start saving our funds.
Overpriced drinks-
On the topic of spending money, we need to stop spending $8 daily on our favorite Starbucks drinks. If you need caffeine that bad, try making your favorite drink at home – it will cut your spending down. But if you truly cannot find the time in your routine to make your drink, support some of our local businesses. My personal favorite is the Coffee Bar in downtown Bel Air.
Random t shirts-
I know in middle school many of us rocked the ratty old t shirts in the name of fitting into the vsco girl aesthetic, but that time has passed. It is time to toss your mom’s charity bake off t-shirt from 2011. They just are not cute anymore.
Birthday Snapchat Spams-
We have all fallen victim to a horrible, scary, criminally offensive picture of us being leaked on snapchat to “celebrate” our birthdays over the years. But in 2024 we are keeping it short and sweet, not just for the victims, but also to save all the viewers from secondhand embarrassment.
Expensive Skincare-
Although I love a nice luxury product sometimes, why are we dropping $60 on a serum that we know you just bought because of the cute packaging and that isn’t doing anything for you? Especially when there are affordable and effective options out there like the ordinary, Hero Cosmetics and CeraVe. Do better!
