Fallston’s women’s lacrosse team went head-to-head with Havre de Grace on April 25th, walking away with another win to add to their 5-5 overall record for the season.
Before the game, seniors Elise Buckler, Harper Canatella, Ayla Galloway, Laurel Haun, Madasyn Hugel, Ava Lambros, MacKenzie Mazor, Hailey Meyers, Anna Miller, Delaney O’Mailey, Kyleigh O’Mailey, Abby Richard, Erin-Kate Roeder, and Cameron Rohner, were announced, walking with their parents down the field to celebrate their final year of high school lacrosse.
Each senior who could play was on the field at the start of the first quarter, ready to play their last home game – together.
Walking onto the field, Fallston and Havre de Grace were ready. Havre de Grace started with the ball looking strong until senior Ava Lambros came in taking possession.
Quickly moving to Havre de Grace’s goal, Fallston took advantage of this momentum scoring their first goal with ten minutes left in the quarter.
Fallston’s momentum was continued with great goals from seniors Ayla Galloway, Madasyn Hugel, with incredible assists from Elise Buckler and Sydney Grafton. Another congratulation goes to Hugel for her great free position goal and Lambros for creating the opportunity.
It wasn’t just the field players making this game a must-watch but also the goalie, senior Cameron Rohner. She had amazing saves, especially in the first quarter, quickly transitioning the ball leading to captain Delaney O’Mailey scoring her first goal of the game with an assist from Grafton. “It felt really good scoring,” said O’Mailey.
The first quarter ended with an 8-3 score, Fallston dominating after an incredible goal from Ava Lambros. Starting the second quarter, Havre de Grace moved to more of a defensive formation, but it did not faze our seniors as Delaney O’Mailey scored with ease and junior Sydney Grafton followed with an assist by Anna Miller.
The best play of the game was made with three minutes left in the second quarter. Galloway won the draw, passing to senior Elise Buckler as she continued to pass around Havre De Grace’s goal, and eventually, the ball made its way back to Galloway just in time for a perfect behind the back shot to go into the goal. One more score from Lambros brought the score to 13-4, Fallston.
Cameron Rohner came out of the goal switching to a field position while EK Roeder went from the field into the goal. Rohner says, “It was super exciting for me since a goalie can’t go coast to coast.” Rohner quickly showed her talents on offense as she scored for Fallston. She adds, “That was the first goal of my high school career and I’m so happy that it happened on senior night!” Her goal was the perfect way for Fallston to end the third quarter as it led with a 16-5 score.
As the fourth quarter began Fallston had to transition to defend more as Havre De Grace managed to get in two goals. Senior Roeder passed the ball to Rohner, quickly transitioning the play across the field getting us our first point of the quarter by Senior Kyleigh O’Mailey.
“It was bittersweet,” said Kyleigh O’Mailey. This was Kyleigh O’Mailey’s first game after recovering from two surgeries.
“Kyleigh O’Mailey getting her goal was my favorite play of the night,” said varsity Lacrosse Coach Palko. Delaney O’Mailey agrees saying, “She deserved to [score] after all of her struggles with her injury.”
Ending the fourth quarter on attack, Fallston’s senior night ended with an amazing 17-7 score for Fallston.
“I want to shoutout Anna Miller,” said Ava Lambros. “We have played on varsity lacrosse together since freshman year and I wouldn’t want to do that with anyone else.”
“I’m going to miss everything,” said Ayla Galloway. “But I’m especially going to miss the encouraging and motivational people I have been surrounded by daily. It’s definitely going to be challenging to say goodbye.”
“Fourteen seniors set a really good foundation for our team. Each one of them is a leader in their own way, and cares so deeply about the team and its success,” ended coach Palko.
These seniors have left an amazing mark on Fallston, and we wish you all the best in college.
