In case you were one of the few people around the world who didn’t watch the Summer Olympics, I’m here to give you the recap of the most interesting highlights of the summer!
Snoop Dogg Makes an Appearance
Many celebrities appear during the Olympics, but the most memorable and most shown this summer was the one and only Snoop Dogg. The website BBC noted that Snoop Dogg had “been seen dancing alongside the US women’s gymnastics team, dressing up in equestrian gear to support American horseback riders and even trying out judo skills.” Snoop Dogg also made an entertaining entrance carrying the torch by “C-Walking” through the streets of Saint-Denis at the opening ceremony.
The Main Attraction: Breaking
There was a new sport this summer that some would argue isn’t even a sport at all. Breaking (also known as breakdancing) had one-on-one dance battles from competitors around the world. Although Raygun (her real name, Rachel Gunn) was a highlight, her interesting moves made the crowd question why she was participating. Some notable moves she performed were taming the cobra, DJ scratch, the kangaroo pose, and a classic, the sprinkler.
An Award-Winning Couple
If you haven’t seen it on social media already, Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall made quite the impression together. When they both won gold medals, they ran into each other’s arms to celebrate right away. Davis-Woodhall did it first when she won gold in women’s long-jump. A month later, Woodhall repeated the same when he won gold in the men’s 400-meter for the Paralympics. Both moments looked like they were straight out of a movie, and everyone admires the love and support that this couple showed each other.
Those are only a few of the highlights from the summer. Obviously, the U.S. did a great job, winning a total of 126 medals for the country. Simone Biles carried in gymnastics, as expected. However, those are all the basic and known facts, so hopefully this encourages you to do more of a dive into other interesting and funny moments of this summer.
