You’ve probably all heard by now that internet personality and mukbang connoisseur Nikocado Avocado revealed his drastic 250-pound weight loss in a YouTube video titled “Two Steps Ahead.” This, however, was unlike any normal weight loss video.
Nikocado, more formally known as Nicholas Perry, carried out his plan for what he deemed “one of the greatest social experiments of all time,” this past Saturday. His experiment not only displayed the cruel nature of humankind, but also just how easy it was to fake things on the internet.
Perry started his weight loss journey late 2022; however, instead of openly speaking about it to the public, he instead chose to keep it private. Perry created a backload of videos and slowly uploaded them for two years. His audience was under the impression that all his videos being uploaded were recent, that was until September 7th when Perry released his “Two Steps Ahead” video.
In this video, he detailed how he tricked the entire internet. Perry spoke about how even just the day before, people were calling him things like “sick” and “boring,” but he would be the one getting the last laugh. He states, “People are the most messed up creatures on the entire planet, and yet I’ve still managed to stay two steps ahead of everyone.”
His social experiment was unlike anything we have seen before. He used technology to reach millions of people and tricked them all. It is impressive he was able to keep up with this lie for years while still maintaining his online presence.
However, with something this drastic and random, viewers quickly started to speculate and share their theories about the entire situation. Some believe that it is all AI, others believe that he prerecorded his video, and some even believe it is a body double. However, he has come out and cleared up these rumors through a video stating that “[he] is not AI or a clone, and it’s crazy how many people believe that [he] is.”
That being said, Nikocado was able to achieve something life-changing in less than two years. He should be applauded for his hard work and dedication. However, this should serve as a lesson for many. Moral of the story: be careful of how you treat people online, they may just fool you.
