Well-loved cookie brand, Oreo, and number one drink brand, Coca-Cola, recently collaborated on a sickly-sweet combo: Coke Oreos and Oreo Coke. This is arguably the most intriguing crossover to date.
Oreo has recently been bored of its own original taste, coming out with new collaborations and flavors left and right. While intriguing flavors are not new to the Oreo franchise, this new collab is definitely something to remember.
Upon opening the black packaging, I was immediately hit with an overwhelming scent of manufactured sugar. The potent smell was less like Coca Cola and more sickening than anything. I decided to not give up hope… yet.
I do believe Oreo has outdone itself with the design of its cookie: a dual-colored wafer featuring one of three possible designs on the red side of the Oreo. Attention to detail redeemed itself upon first impression. But did the taste live up to its name?
The short answer is yes. Coke Oreo cookies do taste like Coca Cola. But to most (most being those in Mrs. Price’s B4 journalism class), the taste is not enjoyable. To me, this cookie is a one-and-done deal. The combination of popping candy as well as the artificial flavor is nothing short of overwhelming. If I had to be specific, the flavor is reminiscent of the vanilla Coca-Cola flavor; however, it is not something I would purchase again.
While Coke Oreos are reminiscent of the iconic Coca-Cola flavor, Oreo flavored Coke Zero Sugar tastes like the original Coke Zero Sugar with an added aftertaste that encapsulates the disappointment I felt as I took a sip out of the can.
In short, the experience was not all that much to rave about. The effort is there and can be seen through the mimic of carbonation with popping candies in the cream. Would you try Coke Oreos and Oreo Coke?
