Fallston football welcomed the North East Indians into The Den this past Friday, October 4, for the Cougars’ homecoming game and played dominant football for all four quarters, piling on 56 points on our side and allowing just 22 points for the opponents.
Thanks to a great combined performance from the Cougars, they were able to bounce back after a loss to Havre De Grace the previous week and put on an offensive show to bring spirit week to a close and set up for a great homecoming night.
Fallston started off the game with a drive to the redzone but stalled out and turned the ball over on downs, giving North East the ball 0-0. Though they drove into Fallston’s territory, an Evan Alcide interception and return put them right back in striking distance and after a short drive, they took the lead with Caleb Canatella rushing a touchdown. But that was just the beginning of an onslaught of touchdowns from the Cougs.
“Everyone played an all-around great game on offense and defense. Looking ahead to next week, we must be more disciplined to stack another win,” Senior Aiden Fodel said. Aside from the initial interception, Fallston continued to cause problems for the opposing quarterback all game, with sacks coming from Issac Dutcher, Cole Shea, and even a strip sack by Oliver Rueckert which was recovered by Evan Alcide. Despite this, the Indians were still able to score three touchdowns (plus a 2-pt conversion).
The Cougars offense was the real sight to see this game though. Caleb Canatella got into the endzone two more times throughout the game, earning a hat-trick of touchdowns. “I feel like the offense played fast and strong and once we got the offense moving, we were scoring on almost every drive,” Canatella said.
Mikey Griffin Jr. and Dominic Foster also added rushing touchdowns of their own. Zach Loewe, who was second in the entire conference in yards and receiving touchdowns prior to this game, added two more scores to his resume, including a stunning grab over a North East defender plus a juke to leave nothing but green grass in front of him for his first six points of the day. TJ Shimaitis also grabbed a receiving touchdown on a perfectly placed ball from Mikey Griffin Jr., threading the needle over multiple defenders.
The Cougars will be at home again this coming Friday as they take on longtime rival North Harford as they look to improve to 4-2 and ask students to show up in a blackout theme.
