Fallston High School is joining Stockings for Soldiers this year, allowing students to participate just in time for the holidays. This is the organization’s 21st year sending gifts to men and women in uniform around the world. Over the years, they have been able to send 151,000 gifts to uplift people away from home and from their families.
Donations include holiday-themed goodies like games, treats, clothing, and more. These specific donations from Fallston will be shipped to a base in Africa where there are 60 service members in the Army National Guard unit excited to receive their gifts.
Ms. Tracy Trexler, who is a media technician for both the middle and high school, is organizing this for Fallston. She has a son-in-law who is the 2nd lieutenant in this unit. Mrs. Trexler and her daughter would send him monthly packages with some of his favorite items, but then they later found out he was sharing these items with others in his unit because they would not receive many gifts. That’s when Mrs. Trexler, along with Mr. Collins, realized they wanted to do more.
“Simple things that we take for granted, like our favorite scent of soap or flavor of coffee or work out shorts—they simply can’t get [deployed],” explained Mrs. Trexler. “So, I know this project is going to bring so much joy to them and they are going to be so surprised and touched that so many students and people are thinking of them. It makes me proud to be a part of this Fallston community.”
Each FHS homeroom has a list of what can be donated. If you wish to donate outside of school, you can deliver a box or stocking filled with goodies to the address on their website, stockingsforsoldiers.org. They will be accepting donations until November 21st.
Fallston has been a huge contributor to many things over the years, including an astounding amount of donations for the recent hurricanes in Florida. So, there is no doubt our community will bring joy to these soldiers for the holidays.
