Last Wednesday, Sports for Life held a cornhole tournament at Bel Air High School. Various schools from across the county came to compete against one another and have fun playing cornhole. However, in case you didn’t know, Sports for Life is a program where individuals with IDD (Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities) are brought together with peers at their school to play games, sports, dance, and have some fun.
This year’s tournament was a record-breaking event, with more than 138 participants, 34 teams, and many fans in the stands there to support their friends and family. During the cornhole tournament 6 rounds were played, and Fallston’s team competed against 12 others.
“I’ve been doing the cornhole tournament for two years,” said the president of Best Buddies, Elizabeth Bromley. “The experience is always great. We just all have so much fun with everybody else.”
“Helping people succeed not only fulfills my sense of accomplishment,” says member, Mayowa Omoyeni, “but it also gives me the opportunity to leave a positive lasting legacy in those I help.”
Everybody at the Cornhole tournament saw or had an experience that made them smile. “It felt like a bunch of friends from all HCPS schools were together hanging out,” adds member, Bryanna Krowe. It was a chilly, but great day and a special thanks go out to the coaches and members who helped make this event possible. “I recommend you join Sports for Life,” says Bryanna. “Trust me–you won’t regret it.”
