Pumpkin pie is overrated
Starting off strong with an opinion I’m very passionate about, I think pumpkin pie is gross. Over the years, I’ve tried to like it for the sake of the holidays and tradition by doing anything I could. Covering it in whipped cream, imagining it was literally anything else, etc., but the truth is…it’s just not good. I firmly believe that we should give pumpkin pie a chance to sit back and let key lime or cherry be the star and have a moment to shine like they deserve, maybe even become the new face of Thanksgiving – in the dessert department at least.
Stuffing is gross and should’ve never been invented
Continuing on a negative note, stuffing is straight-up disgusting, no way around it. I really don’t even have enough experience with it to have much to say on the topic, but that’s only because I struggle heavily to even look at it. It’s like scraps swept up from the floor served to people and marketed as fancy and festive. And don’t even get me started how soggy it is or stuffing the turkey with it. Absolutely shameful behavior.
Mac and Cheese > Mashed Potatoes
Switching to a more positive note, let’s talk about something everyone should love, mac and cheese. I personally would go as far as to say mac and cheese is superior to mashed potatoes. I know this may be controversial, but that’s why it’s a hot take. All I know is it should definitely be the main side dish of Thanksgiving because nothing can even compare to a nice pan of golden baked mac and cheese. Don’t get me wrong, though, I love mashed potatoes and I’m all for them, but they just couldn’t come close to the complexity and character that mac and cheese has to offer, and I’ll always stand by that.
Thanksgiving is underrated as a whole
If no one else is going to say it, I will. Thanksgiving is overall underrated as a holiday, and I never hear anyone talk about it. Maybe I’m the only one who feels this way, but I just think it often gets overshadowed by Christmas. I could also be biased because it’s so close to my birthday, but I find Thanksgiving to be such a cozy and exciting time, and it’s the perfect break between fall and winter to spend time with family. However, everyone just tries to rush Christmas so much rather than enjoying the moment. Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas as much as anyone, but it reaches a point where it doesn’t feel special and loses the magic if you’re celebrating for almost 2 months leading up to the actual holiday. On top of all of this, I also think that Thanksgiving episodes of TV shows are the best/most entertaining, and most of the time I’d pick them over a Christmas episode.
