The 2024 Band showcase kicked off on Bel Air’s home turf this year and featured all the schools in the county that were ready to show off their new bands this year.
Band showcases are a chance for bands to display their musical talent, choreography, and visual skills. Last year, the band voted on what theme they were doing for this year’s showcase, and the votes landed on “Royals.” Their set list included “Dancing Queen” by ABBA, “Sir Duke” By Stevie Wonder, “Lets’ Go Crazy” by Prince, “We Will Rock You” by Queen, and “Royals” by Lorde.
According to Band Director, Mrs. Ariel Foote, the band showcase is “like a competition with less stress to it, and it’s really cool because we get to play for other bands.” Ms. Foote adds that the event is streamed so people can see it, and with all the county bands there together, the vibe is “pretty cozy.” She likes that in the Band Showcase, they’re performing for “a crowd that truly appreciates and relates to all the things that go into the performance.”
The band showcase was also a great opportunity for the established band members to integrate with the new freshmen and make them comfortable before their concerts. “The showcase starts the year off really well getting to know all the new members, freshmen, and getting them integrated into the group and having everyone have a fun time and become more social, and become a full band,” said Mrs. Foote.
The showcase was streamed and is still up on Harford TV! Check it out on YouTube and Facebook to support our Cougar band going into their concert season.
