The cheerleaders hit it off at counties, guaranteeing them a spot in the regional competition and placing them third overall out of every cheer team in Harford County.
This past weekend was the regional competition for the Cougar cheerleaders. Going into the competition their goal was to improve their score. To get to States, the cheerleaders had to keep their score high. They had to be in the top eight teams through the East and West Regional divisions and boy did they show out. The cheerleaders managed to win the regionals in their division, securing their spot at states this weekend on November 9th, and the fight to the top continues.
The 2024 Fallston Cheerleading team made their debut at the Chesapeake Invitational in October. The cheer team solidified their desire to repeat as state champions for the fourth time with their “hit zero routine.” The Cougars’ cheer team has won states and regionals for the past four years, so going into this season they knew they had to continue the tradition. This year, their routine is better than ever.
The cheer team had a routine with zero deductions at invitationals, putting them in second place overall, but first out of all the 1A teams. “This competition was extremely important to us because it sets our score for counties,” said Cadence Wells, one of the three captains. “Now that we have our scores, we will be able to improve for counties.” And that they did. The Cougars went into counties with their new uniforms, ready to take on the challenge. “Going into counties, we really wanted to win, but most of all we wanted to improve our score,” said Captain Greta Will.
“Keeping our score high will guarantee our spot in regionals, which is why for counties we’re more driven to hit a clean, tight, fun, routine,” Will said. Regionals were tough, but states will be tougher. Good luck at states this weekend, cheerleaders!
