On November 6 the Fallston Field hockey team competed against the Pocomoke Warriors in the State Semifinals for the 2nd year in a row. The Cougars fought hard until the final whistle, but still ended their run for States with a tough 4-1 loss to a talented Warrior team.
Don’t be fooled by this score, though. The regular season was successful with a record of 8-3-1. The Cougars secured a bye week for the first round of the playoffs by tying with St. Paul’s in their last regular season game.
Coach Cummings couldn’t be any prouder of the team, saying this was one of her “most rewarding seasons” and that “[the Fallston Field hockey team] showed what you can do when you play as a team.”
When reflecting on the season, which began way back on August 14, Coach Cummings’ highlight of the season has been the last four weeks. In the last four weeks Cummings “[watched] the team feel validated in themselves and feel accomplished.” From the annual tradition of Orange v. White Week, to “bouncing back from the John Carroll game,” to the three-game “winning streak against North Harford, C. Milton Wright, and Rising Sun,” to finally ending the season on a come-from-behind tie with St. Paul’s – the team peaked at just the right time to carry them into outstanding post-season play to win the Region and handily defeat Sparrows Point in the State Quarterfinals.
As we say goodbye to our eight seniors – Lilly Burns, Ava Meyer, Grace Eubank, Sydney Grafton, Sarah Gent, Ella Griffith, and Jenna Krastel – the team will “feel the loss,” Coach Cummings says. We will never forget their lasting impact on Fallston Field Hockey and hope they never forget that they will always be a part of the Field Hockey Family here at Fallston High School.
