Senior year – it’s finally here. It’s easy to get caught up in all the stress of college applications, the constant emails, FAFSA, and more, but I want to take a minute to reflect on the positive things that come with this big year since it’ll be over before we know it. If you’re a senior, you can probably relate, and if you’re not, then here are some fun things to look forward to!
Waiver
Whether you choose work or dual enrollment, waiver is a great option. After 12 years of school, you deserve to have some time off for your last year. 82% of this year’s seniors are on waiver, and you can be too! Despite what it may look like, being on waiver is actually very productive, as it allows more time to relax and decompress, grab something to eat, or get some work done before going to work or an HCC class.
Senior-only electives
Film criticism with J Conn – what’s better? Name another class where you get to watch movies with people only in your grade and learn about the ins and outs of how they’re made. To add to that, who doesn’t love Mr. Grant? If you put AP Human Geography on your schedule, you can have a great time with him and earn an AP credit, and who wouldn’t want that? And finally, an honorable mention, Forensics with Ms. Carrie Cummings, which isn’t only for seniors, but is a super fun and interesting class that mixes science with true crime. I highly recommend taking it if you have room on your schedule.
Senior Pictures
Senior portraits: the moment it all becomes real. Time to dress up, look your best, and smile! Get your yearbook picture, or the whole package, it’s completely up to you. You can also choose to get some shots from a professional photographer to post for Senior Sundays, or just to hang up in your house. Give them out to your friends, family, and teachers, or keep them for yourself. Either way, getting your portraits done is a huge milestone before the year even starts, and you’ll feel super grown up!
College Decisions Instagram Page
Obviously, it’s a super exciting time of year when everyone finds out where they’re going after tirelessly working the entire beginning of the school year to get their applications in, but the college decisions page takes the excitement to a new level. Let everyone know where you’re going, what you’re majoring in, and sports you’re committed to, while also showing off your senior picture!
Senior Events
Field day, senior sunrise, homecoming, prom, pep rallies, the Variety Show senior dance, sports senior nights, and the list goes on! Senior year, there’s truly something for everyone to look forward to, whether you want to put yourself out there by participating in the variety show or signing up for pep rally games, or just lay low and enjoy watching. No matter what you choose to do, senior year has countless milestones and fun memories to take in, but don’t blink or you might miss it!
Senior Week!
Finally, we’ve made it. Graduation is over with, and we’re moving onto the next chapter of our lives, but first, summer. One full week of hanging out with your closest friends, meeting new people from other schools, and celebrating your accomplishments. Whether you go to the beach, lake, or opt to go on a trip with family, senior week is always a ton of well-deserved fun.
