Wednesday, November 22, was Fall signing day for athletes who will be playing a collegiate sport. At Fallston, we had nine commits sign their agreements –
Collin Businsky: Wilmington University, Lacrosse; Sarah Farally: Bridgewater College, Soccer; Sydney Grafton: Grand Valley State University, Lacrosse; Owen King: Randolph-Macon College, Lacrosse; Ella Litz: Stevenson University, Soccer; Jaden Riley: Towson University, Lacrosse; Hunter Solwold: University of Washington, Football; Ian Swartzendruber: Randolph-Macon College, Lacrosse; and Natalie Wirth: Virginia Commonwealth University, Lacrosse.
We have three athletes already signed to Division I schools: Hunter Solwold, Jaden Riley, and Natalie Wirth. Natalie plans to major in psychology at VCU. Division I “has been [her] dream since [she] first started playing.” “For me, it was D1 or bust,” she says. Hunter, who will be playing football for the University of Washington and majoring in sports management, follows in the footsteps of his parents, who both played Division I athletics.
Obviously, these students have put in tons of hard work to get where they are today. Collin Businsky, who plans to major in criminal justice, attributes his motivation to “knowing that there is always something [he] can improve on.” Owen King says, “My family motivates me the most, because my family, especially my parents, have put a lot of time and money into me. I want to make it all worth it.”
The advice these seniors have can be very valuable for any underclassmen hopeful to continue their athletic careers into college. A big theme for them was staying focused within themselves and their schoolwork. Natalie says, “Take every chance you can get to improve yourself and enjoy working hard.”
Congratulations are in order for these nine seniors, and we wish them the best on their collegiate and athletic journeys.
