Following the Stockings for Soldiers donations, this past week, STRIVE students helped to organize and prepare the stockings to be delivered to troops in Africa. This Thanksgiving weekend, the stockings were officially done with preparations and were sent off to a base in Africa.
Media Technician Ms. Tracey Trexler has a son who is deployed in Africa. He helped to inspire the start of the process to become a part of Stockings for Soldiers. This is Fallston’s first year being a part of the organization but “we’re hoping to keep going with this past Christmas doing more,” says STRIVE teacher Mrs. Delaney.
Donations covered multiple tables in the STRIVE classrooms, as Fallston students accumulated a large sum of donations and items. These donations included necessities like hygiene products and clothes, as well as little treats and goodies. In addition to these donations, Fallston even received donations from Under Armor.
Each STRIVE student was accompanied by a buddy or staff member to assist in the final “wrap-up” of each stocking. The students helped to pick the items from each list and then pack up the stockings for transportation.
Fallston’s goal is to not only help troops in need but also “to help with [STRIVE students’] skills for doing something like an assembly line working,” as well as skills they can use throughout the rest of their lives. Stockings for Soldiers is just another opportunity to help STRIVE students work on their vocational skills, which will help them excel in “real life skills that they may use out in the world.”
Fallston hopes to continue this as a tradition for not only the holidays, but also hopefully another donation drive in the upcoming months. Stockings for Soldiers gives everyone an opportunity to give back this holiday season. Together STRIVE, staff, and students will make this a holiday to remember for our troops. Thank you!
