The streets in Bel Air, White Marsh, and Aberdeen were alive this Christmas season all thanks to Fallston High School’s very own marching band participating in the annual winter parades.
The band started their busy weekend on Saturday, December 7, at the White Marsh parade. While walking, they played something different than their normal options of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” and “Joy to the World.” Instead, they decided to perform “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” as they marched the streets, which was a huge hit.
The band had lots of time to relax before their next parade in Aberdeen at 3 p.m., so they decided to start up a new tradition, a cookie contest at lunch “which was delicious” and “so much fun,” says the band director, Mrs. Foote.
After their busy day at the parades full of food and fun, they had another parade to attend the next day on the streets of Bel Air. They made their mark in Bel Air by invading Bagel Works before their performance which is a 3-year long tradition held by the Cougars, so the employees were prepared for and expecting them. The band finished out the weekend strong by walking on Main Street, Bel Air at 3:30 and going home to rest before school the next day.
This is band director Mrs. Foote’s third year at Fallston, and she loves teaching band as the “performances alone are fun, but the real memories are made in the little fun moments between them.” These parades make lots of fun little moments and memories for the band to take with them from their high school years that they will remember forever. Keep on the lookout for the next performances of the FHS Marching Band!
