The AP environmental classes went on a field trip this past week to Rocks State Park and partook in hiking and visiting a historical graveyard across the line into Pennsylvania. The trip was meant to highlight the fun of the outdoors, and that it did!
The hike consisted of a nice steady incline all the way to the Rocks State Park waterfall. The fall had a 36-foot drop, the second highest in Maryland, but to get to the beautiful view, students had to cross the stream, as pictured here.
The wonderful Mrs. McLeod also brought along some of her advanced drawing students, and of course herself. “It’s always nice to be outside with the kids,” Mrs. McLeod said, “but my favorite part of it was not getting my feet wet from the stream! One kid even took their socks and shoes off, and crossed barefoot, and others just waded through the water!”
The fall itself was gorgeous, and students couldn’t help but climb all the way to the top and sit along the rocks above.
The graveyard also seemed to be a hit. Mr. McLeod said that “it was [his] favorite part of the trip, it’s so cool to see all the older tombstones, what they were made out of and how different they are from today.”
The advanced drawing students also had an amazing time! “I’m glad we had the opportunity to go, even though we’re not in APES,” said drawing student Flynn Callan. “I had an amazing time just being outdoors, it was a welcomed change from the school environment.”
But the highlight of most of the students’ trip was the all-you-can-eat pizza! After the hike, the students took a trip to a local pizza place where they could eat, socialize, and have fun with each other!
Overall, the field trip was a massive success as students had the opportunity to branch out, make new friends, and learn new things on the trip. All the students had a great time. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. McLeod!
