Last Friday, the Best Buddies club went to the Men’s Basketball game vs. Havre De Grace. They sat in the bleachers alongside Varsity Pep Squad members, and had a blast shooting baskets, as well as cheering for their friends. The Best Buddies had more than ten members attend, making this event lively and full of energy for those that went.
In case you didn’t know, Best Buddies is a program where individuals with IDD (Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities) are brought together with peers at their school in an open environment to make friends and have fun.
While the Men’s Basketball game was entertaining, the real fun started at half time. When current members of Best Buddies, Varsity Pep Squad, and even some of our own Fallston alumni took the court to shoot some baskets.
The stands lit up when familiar faces like Ryan J, Cam Judy, Langston Pannell, and Aayon Desai began shooting baskets. Every time somebody scored or got close to making it, the crowd would start cheering. “You could tell how happy it made them to see everybody cheering,” said President of Best Buddies, Elizabeth Bromley. “Events like this are the reason I do Best Buddies.”
Even though Fallston had a close game, they did end up losing. However, that day felt like a win for those in Best Buddies who got a chance to take the spotlight and make memories that will stick with them forever.
