On Sunday, February 9, 2025, just 691 days after losing to the Chiefs in Superbowl LVII, the Eagles saw the green and white confetti falling from the sky at 10:08 p.m. symbolizing their revenge win against the Chiefs.
There are many things to cover when it comes to this year’s Superbowl…
Recap of the weekend that determined who would be on the road to New Orleans
Sunday, January 26, 2025, marked the day that four teams would be competing for the NFC and AFC championship titles as well as a spot in Superbowl LIX.
At 3:30 p.m., the Philadelphia Eagles hosted the Washington Commanders at their home stadium, Lincoln Financial Field, where both teams were looking to take the title and head to one of the biggest sports stages in America. The Commanders started off by getting a field goal in the first 7 minutes of the game, giving them the lead. But that didn’t last long as the Eagles were able to get a touchdown one minute later, and then another touchdown 4 minutes later, putting them ahead in the fight. The second quarter showed just how destined the Eagles were to win when they got 13 points, putting their score at 25, and the Commanders at 15.
Then it was half time, and the Commanders were going to have some serious talk about how they were going to come back from this. They were able to get a touchdown in the 3rd quarter, where rookie quarterback, Jayden Daniels, rushed up the middle 10 yards to get a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough. This was the end for the Commanders as they were not able to earn any more points and gave the Eagles 21 more points. The final score was Eagles 55 and Commanders 23. Then it was time for the AFC Championship.
Just 3 hours later at 6:30 p.m., in Arrowhead Stadium, the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs began the fight for the title of AFC champions. The Chiefs led the charge with a touchdown in the 1st quarter, and that was just the beginning of the fight for these two. By halftime, the Chiefs were only up by 5 points, still giving hope to the Bills to make a comeback.
This is exactly what happened when Josh Allen found James Cook in the 3rd quarter, granting them a touchdown and leaving them in the lead by only 1 point. This didn’t last long though; the Chiefs came back in the final quarter of the game earning 11 points while the Bills could only make a final touchdown for 7 points. The final score of the game was Kansas City 32 and Buffalo 29.
This meant that the Eagles and Chiefs were to meet again in Superbowl LIX.

Play-by-Play of Superbowl LIX
After 25 long weeks of waiting, we finally made it to the Superbowl, and this was going to be a repeat of 2023, where the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs set the stage to fight for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Both teams had a long and hard season, but it was all worth it when they were able to play in the Superbowl.
6:30 p.m. in New Orleans marked the time that both teams began the fight for the title, and let’s just say we were in for a long night. The Eagles led the attack when Jalen Hurts rushed up the middle for a 1-yard touchdown. They stayed in the lead for the 2nd quarter and gained 17 more points, by getting a touchdown and a field goal. The Chiefs had a lot of time to make up for in just two more quarters, leading fans to wonder if they would get their three-peat or not.
The Eagles came back from halftime with the passion they started the game with and were able to get another touchdown and field goal. But it seemed that the Chiefs were also coming back with a fire in their eyes when Patrick Mahomes was able to find Xavier Worthy for their first touchdown of the game. Sadly, though, the Chiefs could not come back from this, even with 16 more points in the 4th quarter. The Eagles came back for revenge this year and that is what they got, winning Eagles 40 and Kansas City 22.

Superbowl Halftime Show
The headliner for this year’s halftime show was Kendrick Lamar. His theme was the “The Great American Game,” which featured a video game console as the stage. There were also some surprise guests like actor Samuel L. Jackson, who played Uncle Sam and tried to control the music being played. And Songwriter, SZA, was also featured and the two performed two of their most popular songs, “Luther” and “All the Stars.”
While this halftime show could go down as one of the most historical shows performed in history, it has also faced a lot of controversy. Kendrick is known for being very political through his music, and he brought that to one of the biggest stages in America. Many fans are speculating that his message for the show was to warn Americans about going back in history, through recent events like the 2024 election and changes that are being made in the government.
Not only did he come for the government, but he also came for another famous rapper, Drake. These two are known to have problems in the past. For his Superbowl performance he decided to sing his song “Not Like Us,” which was a target at Drake in many ways. He also invited Serena Williams, who is Drake’s ex, to take part in a small dance portion. It’s safe to say that Kenderick fans were happy and loved the performance, but if you were to talk to a Drake fan, they were not thrilled.
