Fallston’s very own Family and Consumer Science Teacher, Ms. Mason, has been nominated to be HCPS Teacher of the Year.
Ms. Mason was honored to be nominated after 28 years working in the food department and was “very surprised” when she found out about her nomination. Sometimes the foods staff and department can get overlooked, so getting recognition for all her “hard work and everything [she] has done over the years” was truly an honor.
28 years working in the foods department has definitely brought some special memories and moments for Ms. Mason. Firstly, she loves seeing all her students that she has been teaching for years finally take their culinary teachings and “spread their wings,” when hosting luncheons at the school or other similar events. Fallston Junior Emily Harthausen said how Ms. Mason “is a really good teacher, and [she] has learned a lot from her during the last 2 years.”
Something Ms. Mason loves the most, though, is when her past students come back for a visit, whether it is to thank her for everything that they have learned, or just to say hello. She loves it when this happens because it makes her job worth it “knowing that [she] touched someone’s life on the way,” which is not something everyone can say about their job.
Not only was she nominated for HCPS Teacher of the Year, but she was also nominated for ProStart Teacher of the Year, which is to highlight the excellent teachers in the culinary department. While she didn’t win this, it was still an amazing feeling to be recognized for her expertise.
Ms. Mason has made a big impact on the Fallston community in the culinary department, so if you see her in the halls, remember to congratulate her on her nomination!
