On March 12, students from Mr. and Mrs. McLeod’s classes were given the option to go on a field trip to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. Thirty kids chose to go on the trip and were not disappointed.
The field trip consisted of tours of the indoor gardens, a walk through all of the different structures, and even a tour of the original house. They also got to go into treehouses built throughout the property!

When asked about the field trip, Mr. McLeod told me that the gardens were “just a beautiful place to have an Art and Science mixer. So, [they] went there, and all the Art kids were taking pictures, and the science kids were taking pictures, it was just one of those little slices of heaven-type areas.”
Field trips are extremely beneficial for students, not only for learning but for wellness too. “It’s only like an hour way, and it’s great to get the kids out,” Mr. McLeod added. “A lot of kids have never been there before and just realized that there’s a lot to do in our local area. Maybe they’ll take their family back there.”
But what about the students? What did they think of the trip? Junior Flynn Callan is in Advanced Drawing with Mrs. McLeod and attended the field trip. “It was my first time there, and it was so pretty,” Flynn said. “The food is better than you’d think, and even the history was interesting. I definitely would like to go back.”
Overall, it seems like the students had a great time at the Gardens! I speak for us all when I say, I can’t wait to see what adventure these classes will go on next!
