Red Fridays at Fallston are now in full swing! Every month, on one Friday, Fallston High School students and staff are encouraged to wear red to show their support to any, and all, deployed troops.
Why red? Red is an acronym for “Remember Everyone Deployed,” and now that Fallston has a unique relationship with soldiers stationed overseas, we are happy to show our support in any way.
The exact origins of Red Friday are highly debated, but we do know that it gained widespread recognition in North America during the early 2000s. This was particularly popular during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The color red is a symbol of sacrifice and courage, and by wearing it, our school can express solidarity with military personnel who often endure long separations from loved ones while serving their country.
Alex Kegan, a junior at Fallston, participates in red Fridays because “[he] thinks it’s a great cause, and it’s really cool. These people are serving our country and supporting us, so we need to support them too.”
On the next upcoming Red Fridays, I encourage everyone to participate to show our love and support for our overseas friends. Our Fallston family will continue to showcase compassion for the service members, with the help of students and staff.
