This year, three new people have joined the Cougar family, all of them excited to start fresh this school year. Let’s welcome these new teachers and staff and get to know them better!
First off, our new assistant principal, Mr. Theodore Childs:
Coming into a new community of students and staff, Mr. Childs plans to “fully integrate [himself] into the school” so that by the end of this school year, “people would forget that [he] was new.” After teaching history for high school students for 15 years, he became an assistant principal for five years prior to arriving at Fallston. One fun fact that he would like to share is that he actually plays guitar! “I’m not good at it at all,” he admits, “but I do buy guitars and collect them, and I do enjoy playing them!”

Ms. Danielle Barthel:
Ms. Barthel is a new teacher here at Fallston, teaching Biology and Earth & Environmental Science (EES). Although this is only her second year in a traditional school setting, with her experience, Ms. Barthel brings a wild background to the classroom. “Before that, I taught at zoological institutions,” she shares, including her time working at Disney’s Animal Kingdom where she trained gorillas. Her unique experience with wildlife gives her a fresh perspective on science education that she can give to her students. Her goal this year is to get to know all the kids and “just to have a great year at Fallston during [her] first year.”

Finally, Mrs. Kate Glascock:
After teaching in Baltimore County for 20 years and being part of the STRIVE program for two years, Mrs. Glascock continues her 23rd year of teaching here at Fallston after spending some time at Patterson Mill Middle. “My experience has been incredible so far. The faculty and staff were so welcoming and supportive. I feel very thankful to be part of such a positive and collaborative community,” she explains. Something that Mrs. Glascock looks forward to this year is the STRIVE coffee shop for staff and faculty each week—Garbucks! She’s also looking forward to launching new initiatives, “including starting a greenhouse, creating an in-school postal delivery service, expanding our recycling program, and cheering on our sports teams.” A fun fact about her is that she has two children who also attend Fallston.
Let’s give a warm welcome to these new teachers and staff and have a great first year experience with them!
