October is the perfect time to give back to your community
November 10, 2022
Make a Difference Day (the 22nd of October this year), starts on the fourth weekend of October every year. The whole goal of Make a Difference Day is for people to help society. Even individuals can help the greater good and make a difference in the community.
The Manna House in Baltimore helps the homeless and poor people of the community. There are volunteer opportunities under the “volunteer” tab on their website and there are applications to fill out. Volunteer opportunities include helping serve food, assembling kits, administration, technology, and/or miscellaneous tasks. There is also the option to donate online on their website under the “donate now” tab.
Another place like the Manna House is Tabitha’s House. They serve at-risk and low-income people in Harford County. There are many volunteer opportunities available at Tabitha’s house. If you are interested, ask for information in-person. They also except gently worn clothing, shoes, household items, and pantry items. The list of what can and cannot be donated is also available on their website.
Make a Difference Day is not only for the human community, but it is also for our animal friends as well. At the Humane Society located in Fallston, pets are always looking to be adopted or even fostered while looking for someone to buy them.
However, it is understandable not all people can take on that responsibility. You can also volunteer your time by applying to be a volunteer, or you can even donate under the “ways to give” tab on their website. To volunteer, go to the “ways to give” tab and hit “volunteer.” If you scroll, there will be an application you can fill out.
Overall, no matter how small or how big, anything can make a difference. Donations or volunteering to your local community can benefit many people. The simplest of acts can make this world a better place. It’s not just limited to October; Make a Difference Day could really be every day.
