Almost 30 years later, the Sanderson sisters return for the Halloween movie of the year; Hocus Pocus 2 arrived to Disney+ on September 30, and lovers of the hit 1993 movie were filled with nostalgia. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy reprise their infamous roles as the three Sanderson Sisters along with Doug Jones who plays Billy Butcherson.

Accidently bringing back the Sanderson Sisters to Salem, three teens, Becca, Izzy, and Cassie, must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from causing chaos in Salem once again. Joining the spooky sequel are Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo, and Lilia Buckingham.

After the movie’s release it quickly became the strongest domestic debut to date on Disney+. In just three days it set the record for the highest viewership pulled in for any Disney+ premier. Unfortunately, the viewers’ streams were not enough to fully impress the critics, only scoring a 63% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer and a 51% on their Audience Score. Some fans are disappointed after waiting over two decades for the sequel, and others are just happy to be able to add another family-friendly Halloween movie to their watchlist.

The mixed reviews of the long-awaited Hocus Pocus 2 don’t undermine the fact that it was amazing to see the Sanderson Sister back to terrorize Salem again. The original actors reprising their roles was the treat of this Halloween season.
