The first two weeks of the NFL season were packed with action. Week one started off strong on a Thursday night with the Detroit Lions defeating the 2023 Superbowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. Down 20-14 towards the beginning of the fourth quarter, they came back, scoring a touchdown to ultimately win 21-20.
The Baltimore Ravens have had an exciting start to their season. They are 2-0 with wins against the Houston Texans in week one, 25-9, and the Cincinnati Bengals, in week two, 27-24.
The Bengals also lost in week one. Fan favorite, Joe Burrow, had a career-low performance in his first game, with only 82 passing yards and a 45% pass completion rate. He didn’t look much better in week two and has been struggling after being out from training camp with a calf injury.
The New York Giants had an unfortunate start to their season as well. Getting blown out of the water, 40-0, by the Dallas Cowboys, week one was a tough start, but they were able to pick it back up during week two, beating the Arizona Cardinals 31-28. After being down 20-0 at the end of the first half, they were able to hold the Cardinals to only one touchdown and two-point conversion in the second half while also putting up four touchdowns and a field goal.
The New England Patriots, however, did not come out with a win against the Philadelphia Eagles during week one, or the Miami Dolphins in week two. Although, they still had an exciting opening weekend. Fresh into retirement, Tom Brady made an appearance at the game to be the first keeper of the Light in history, breaking in the new lighthouse outside of Gillette Stadium by ringing the bell before the game. Brady’s Patriots Hall of Fame induction date was also announced on Sunday and is set to take place on June 12, 2024.
Week one ended with an unfortunate turn of events for Aaron Rodgers, the New York Jets quarterback, and J.K. Dobbins, Baltimore’s running back. Both players are out for the season after suffering a torn Achilles injury. Many fans were hesitant about the Jets signing Rodgers as their new QB1 due to his age, and it seems they were right to have their suspicions.
Week two was no less injury-filled, ending with Colts quarterback, Anthony Richardson concussed, and Giants running back, Saquon Barkley’s ankle sprained.
