Halloween is quickly approaching. People of all ages dress up for the holiday; however, 2023 has been a year of new things and with that comes new Halloween costumes. Trying to avoid basic costumes is half the struggle when picking what to wear. Here are some things you may want to avoid this year.
- Barbie
Following the release of the Barbie movie earlier this year, we can assume lots of people will be dressed as Barbie or Ken this year. A suitable alternative to this is dressing as a Bratz doll or dressing as a glammed-out version of a specific career, because Barbie is known for her huge job resumé.
- Mario and Peach
Another movie released this year was the The Super Mario Bros movie. Despite this costume being used years prior, many more people are going to dress as Mario or Peach this year due to the recent release. Instead of dressing as the main characters, you could dress as a side character like Yoshi, Luigi, or Daisy.
3. Taylor Swift
The pop queen herself has grown hugely within the past year following her announcement of the Eras Tour and release of her 10th studio album, Midnights. There will be a lot of blonde-wigged heads walking around Halloween night. For the diehard Swifties who need to dress as Swift this year, I recommend picking a specific outfit from your favorite music video.
4. The Little Mermaid
Following Halle Bailey’s unforgettable performance as Ariel in late May, the resurgence of this costume is inevitable. To avoid duplicates, dressing as the human form of Ariel should give your costume a unique touch. You could also add real seashells into your hair and on your costume to make it more personalized to your taste.
5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are popular every year; however, the new movie following these characters was recently released. This allows for an even larger comeback this year. Instead of getting a storebought outfit for this costume, I recommend making your own because it is a simple costume and can be customized to your liking.
