Noah Kahan is an indie folk artist who has recently gained popularity after his song “Stick Season” went viral last year. I have loved him for years, and I have compiled a list of the top ten reasons I love him for all his new listeners.
10. He has a nice vibe. He has a very woodsy folk vibe. I like to pretend I actually enjoy the outdoors when I listen to him.
9. On stage he always does his little dances. He likes to jump on speakers. At least once a month, a new video of him falling off of the speaker comes on my TikTok. I just get a good giggle.
8. One thing he does that I love is he always brings out his openers to sing at least one song with him. I think this just shows how humble he is and how he sees himself on the same level as his openers. I also think it is fun to hear his songs with a new spin on them.
7. I enjoy guessing what he is going to wear to his concerts. He always has a little variation in his outfits, and it is fun to guess what he is going to wear next. My personal favorite combination is his pigtail braids and overalls.
6. He is collecting features like infinity stones. He just keeps finding more people to feature with, including Post Malone, Lizzy McAlpine, Kacey Musgraves, Hozier, and Gracie Abrams. He also was featured on Zach Bryan’s (my third favorite music artist) song “Sarah’s Place.”
5. He is “Daddy.” He is known to refer to himself by silly little names like “Jewish Capaldi,” “Daddy,” “Folk Malone,” and more. It just gives me a good little giggle every time.
4. He is extremely unhinged. He does not seem to have a manager controlling what he says because some things he says are wild. An example is when he introduces his song, “New Perspective,” by saying that you should drag all the happy people in your life down with you.
3. He is also reducing the stigma about mental health. He is not afraid or ashamed to talk about his mental health problems. He even has a song titled, “Growing Sideways,” which talks about going to therapy.
2. He’s the most adorable person ever. I have never seen an artist so thankful and humble. I actually cried when I saw his TikTok about being on SNL because he is just so cute.
1. His song writing is just unmatchable. His songs scratch an itch in my brain that no one else can. He writes lyrics that I relate to on a spiritual level. He also just has some that I don’t relate to at all, but I could listen to forever like, “No thing defines a man, like love that makes him soft,” and “I’ll be bedridden, I’ll let the pain metastasize.”
