Fallston’s very own Kaylee Spiegel has earned her place in the All-State Chorus for 2024. One of the 35 soprano 1 singers, Spiegel is in the Senior Treble Chorus, which is one of the three choruses in All-State.

There are four parts in the Senior Treble Chorus, soprano 1 (the highest part), soprano 2, alto 1, and alto 2.

Spiegel has an impressive career from going to the University of Marland workshops and previously being a part of the All-County choir. She is also in Honors Chorus and is the president of the Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Spiegel was audition number 2,500, with numerous kids after her as well. Spiegel said she “kept thinking about how many people there were” but tried not to overwhelm herself with that fact.

She had to prepare “Daniel, Daniel, Servant of the Lord” arranged by Undine Moore and “O Shone Nacht” arranged by Johannes Brahms. Spiegel also had to prepare for two sight readings, rhythmic and melodic.

“During the audition I tried to keep the fact that I was nervous in the back of my mind. I didn’t want it to affect my performance,” said Spiegel. “I kept in mind the dynamics when singing and the counting throughout it all.”

Doubting herself after the audition, especially on the melodic sight reading, Spiegel waited for what seemed like forever to see if she made All-State. “I was almost positive that I didn’t make it,” said Spiegel.

A few weeks after the audition, Spiegel received an email of all the names that made it into All-State and found her name under the Senior Treble Chorus.

“When I found out I got in it was overwhelming with all the emotions I felt,” said Spiegel.

With this being her first-time a part of the All-State Chorus for Spiegel, she is “a bit nervous but so excited for this opportunity.”

The All-State chorus is currently practicing “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone),” “Jai Ho,” “Shenandoah,” “Festival Gloria,” “Children, Go Where I Send Thee,” and “Sing Me to Heaven.”

The All-State Chorus performs in concert this Sunday, February 25th, at 6 p.m., at Morgan State University (Murphy Fine Arts Center). Tickets can be bought online for $20.00 or at the door for $25.00.

Congratulations Kaylee for this impressive achievement!
