You’ve probably heard by now that everyone’s favorite celebrity couple, Tom Holland and Zendaya, have officially gotten engaged. The adorable pair has been together since 2021, but rumors swirled around long before that, starting in 2016 when they were cast together in Spiderman Homecoming: talk about MJ and Peter Parker in real life. This engagement has been a long time coming, as fans adore the two and how healthy their relationship is, especially for being celebrities in the public eye so often. It’s been obvious since the start that there was chemistry between them, even before they officially made it public. Many have commented on Tom’s love and support for Zendaya from the start, using him as a model of what they look for in a man, so it’s safe to say we’ve all been waiting for this for a while.
At the Golden Globes on Sunday, January 5, Zendaya was spotted showing off an absolutely stunning diamond on her left hand, making it official. This came as a shock to fans due to the very private nature of their relationship that usually makes its way out of the spotlight, as they openly support each other at events and on social media but tend to keep the details to themselves. Tom recently told Men’s Health that he doesn’t usually walk carpets with Zendaya because “it’s not [his] moment, it’s her moment.” However, they’ve still found a way to make their love for each other known, posting on social media, and attending premieres and events to celebrate each other’s accomplishments.
This couple is so powerful that despite making limited public appearances together and keeping the details of their relationship private, even denying any type of romance or relationship rumors back in the Spiderman days, they’re easily one of the most well-known and loved couples in the industry. Fans just can’t help but melt watching them interact. They even got matching tattoos with each other’s initials just a few weeks before the proposal, and in 2023 fans couldn’t help but notice Zendaya wearing a ring engraved with Tom’s initials in a video her nail artist posted.
Around that time, she told Elle magazine in an interview that she “can’t not be a person and live [her] life and love the person [she loves].” She adds, “But also, I do have control over what I choose to share. It’s about protecting the peace and letting things be your own but also not being afraid to exist. You can’t hide. That’s not fun either. I am navigating it more than ever now.” Tom had a similar comment in an interview with GQ in 2021 when they first got together relating to the couples’ privacy, believing “one of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn’t really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world.”
The love that these two have for each other is truly heartwarming and a very refreshing break from all the drama and messy divorces in Hollywood, and it has been so incredible to see their journey and the growth of their relationship. From denial of dating rumors, endless support and love, engraved rings, matching tattoos, to finally becoming fiancés, these two really have been through it all – and we loved being there for every second of it.
