As the winter season is nearly in full swing, it’s time to look back at the great seasons all the Cougar athletics teams had during Fall. Combining all JV and Varsity records during Fall comes out to 130 wins and just 46 losses, an amazing 74%-win stat.
Starting off hot with the Cross Country squad, they finished 12-1 and were division champions. Led by seniors such as Gabi Murphy, Nick Spangler, Josh Atha, Emma Mitchell, and others. The team had an amazing season and even finished third in the State Finals.
Next up, Field Hockey. Finishing division champs, regional champs, and even going on to be state finalists. The team met and surpassed the expectations set on them as Field Hockey athletes here at Fallston, a storied, winning program. Led by seniors such as Kendall and Kelsey Haun, Anna Adamec, Campbell Fox, Olivia Parker and many others. “I love this program and will continue to support it forever,” said Senior Goalie Auggie McCarthy.
Football comes next, with varsity finishing as division champions and flexing a strong 8-3 record at the end of the season. Their season started off with a loss, but the Cougars went on to win 6 in a row and beat Harford Tech in the playoffs, though eventually losing to Hereford. The season was headlined by amazing performances from Senior Wide Receiver Zach Loewe, who now leads in receptions, receiving touchdowns, and receiving yards in Fallston History, as well as from Freshman Abi Archibong who was thrust into a starting role and shined, and Junior QB Mike Griffin Jr., who surpassed 3000 passing yards in his career at Fallston this season. “I’ll never forget the memories [this team] gave me playing the greatest game on God’s earth,” said Senior Center Cole McCumbers.
The golf team is up next, a squad who quietly had a great season, finishing 7-4 and as division champions. Led by the likes of Sarai Moss, Jasper Killian, Trent Carey, Davis Orsini, and others. Moss was selected as First Team All-Conference.
Next, Men’s and Women’s Soccer both had stellar seasons, with the Women’s team finishing 20-4 and as state quarterfinalists, while the Men’s team went 22-6 and took a trip through the playoffs to become state finalists. Truly incredible seasons from both teams. The women’s team was led by seniors such as Ruby Reddel and Victoria Goad, who were selected as First and Second Team All-County, respectively. “Thank you for the best season, I love you guys,” said Senior Amber Schauman to her team when reflecting on the season. Meanwhile, the Men’s team was led by seniors such as Heath Rhudy, Lucas Clark, Levi Tanguay, Brendan Rey, and others. One moment from each of their seasons will be remembered for years to come. For the girls, it was when Ruby Reddel put in the golden goal in double overtime in the Women’s Regional Finals match against Sparrows Point. For the men, on the other hand, it was when Goalie Lucas Clark went out with a concussion, and Connor Detamore stepped up to make the game winning save in Penalty Kicks against C. Milton Wright in State Semifinals.
Last, but certainly not least comes Men’s and Women’s volleyball. The Men’s team finished with an incredible 19-5 record, while the women finished at 18-14. The men were led by seniors Joey Gross, Luke Price, Flynn Callan, and others. The women’s squad was led by the likes of Mary Pfaff, Natalie Gross, Kerri Chandler, and others.
Overall, Fall proved to be a great season for Fallston Athletics, and the Cougars look to keep the success going as Winter is here, and the basketball, swimming, wrestling, and indoor track teams are ready to start their seasons. Good luck, Cougars!
