It’s official, Robert Irwin is the Dancing with the Stars Season 34 Mirrorball Champion, and no one is surprised. From Elaine Hendrix making history as the oldest person to be in the finale to Danielle Fishel getting voted off before Andy Richter—the most recent season of DWTS was packed full of epic highs and epic lows. To recap the season, we’re going to be handing out superlatives for some of our favorite contestants and dances.
Most Improved
Alix Earle and Val Chmerkovskiy

Over the course of her time on DWTS, Alix Earle became a powerhouse dancer. Every week we anticipated her next dance because her improvement was astonishing. Her dedication was quite shocking to me because of my preconceived notions of her, but after watching her weekly YouTube videos that documented her commitment, it is very clear that she is a hard worker. Comparing her week one cha-cha to her samba in the finale, the improvement is night and day, which is why she is deserving of this superlative.
Most Likely to Keep Dancing
Whitney Leavitt

With a degree in modern dance from Brigham Young University, it’s no surprise that The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Whitney Leavitt is a fabulous dancer. From her week-one tango to her semifinals Viennese waltz and cha-cha, Leavitt was undoubtedly the most advanced and well-versed dancer of Season 34. Every time she stepped onto the ballroom floor, it was evident that she was doing what she loves—an energy that ultimately landed her the role of Roxie Hart in Chicago on Broadway. We’re so excited to see where Leavitt’s journey takes her, and we’ll be tuning in.
Gone Too Soon
Danielle Fishel

Although there were other great dancers who got eliminated too soon, we ultimately chose Danielle Fishel for this superlative. Throughout season 34, Fishel brought nothing but positive energy to the dance floor and has been referred to as the “mom” of the cast. It was obvious Danielle was improving, and we wish she was given more time to reach her full potential.
Best Finale Freestyle
Jordan Chiles and Ezra Sosa

Jordan Chiles and Ezra Sosa were one of the most charismatic couples on season 34, and that was evident in every dance they did, especially their finale freestyle. The partners put on an unforgettable performance to Beyonce’s “Bow Down (Homecoming Live)” and “Motivation” by Normani that left the crowd reeling. In their freestyle, they included elements of gymnastics and even had a surprise guest performance by Normani. It is quite incredible to see all of their hard work pay off and get them this far in the show.
Most Theatric Freestyle
Elaine Hendrix and Alan Bersten

Elaine is a performer, and that shined during their final dance. From start to finish, this dance looked like a theater production, like something you would see on Broadway. Starting off in a mock waiting room with celebrity Lisa Ann Walter, the dance was made to emulate an audition process. Alan choreographed a number unlike any other seen before on the show, and one that will be remembered by so many fans for how upbeat and cheerful it was.
Season’s Best Pro
Val Chmerkovskiy

Val is a seasoned pro, and it is clear why he has won three Mirrorball trophies. The dances he choreographed for Alix this season were excellent. He knew how to make his celebrity shine, and honestly, he was robbed of his fourth Mirrorball. However, with his talent of dance and choreography, he will surely have ample opportunity in the future to shine again.
