Last weekend, many had the pleasure of tuning into the 50th anniversary of the Saturday Night Live special filled with iconic sketches and unforgettable characters. Like many hit entertainment shows such as the Bachelor, or Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Fallston High School will have the pleasure to host the FNL cast & crew on Friday, February 28 in the auditorium. In between the skits, students here at FHS would like to take the time to share their talents with the community as featured below.
SCUMLINE – Band
The first act of the night will be the band Scumline, who will be covering “Down in A Hole” by Alice and Chains. Coming back for the 3rd year in a row, the band features lead guitarist & singer, Krystian Lisiewski ‘25, along with his band members, Dylan Scheihing, ‘27; Gabe Regan, ‘25; and returning for the final time, Fallston alum, Tyler Cigarski, ‘23. Having played guitar for five years, and drums for seven, Krystian is the expert when it comes to getting down a song for the show. Explaining the process, Krystian says, “We decide on a song and practice it until we get it down then we make sure our equipment sounds good.” For Krystian, playing at the variety show these past few years has shown people a different side of music that isn’t typically played in a lot of shows today.
Emmalea Sheckells – Contortion
Following will be Emmalea and her contortion routine to the song, “Power” by Little Mix ft. Stormzy. Emmalea first got into contortion at the age ten. “I was a flyer for my cheer team, so I needed to be flexible for that,” she explains. While most expect the typical dance routine in a show like this, Emmalea saw her talent as an opportunity to give people an unusual form of entertainment. During this act, we can expect to see many different complex movements including her most complex, a chin roll.
Kaylee Spiegel – Singing
Kaylee is a senior this year and is looking forward to singing for the second time in the variety show. Last year, she blew the crowd away with her amazing cover of “I’m Not The Only One” by Sam Smith accompanied by her friend on the piano. This year, the song she plans to sing will be a surprise for her mom, as it is one of her favorites to hear Kaylee sing. Performing at the variety show is not all Kaylee has planned for her future in music. She hopes to one day become a choir teacher in order to “influence students the way [her] teachers have influenced [her].”
Lex Courtney – Monologue
From singing to acting, Lex’s passions have always included being on stage. This year, they plan to do a monologue that they originally enjoyed doing in drama class. Lex sang a duet with their friend two years ago and decided to show off their acting skills as they “want to act professionally one day.” While this may be Lex’s senior year and last year to be on the stage at FHS, it certainly won’t be their last time performing, as they plan to go to college for acting and English.
David Lin – Piano Solo
If playing the violin and drums wasn’t enough, for the past 2-3 years, Freshman David Lin picked up playing the piano due to his fascination with the sound of the instrument. Music is a very important aspect in his life and getting to share this talent with the school allows him to show “what music can do to one, and also the happiness that playing music can bring to one’s life.” David was very meticulous in his song selection considering factors like difficulty, theme, time commitment, as well as pieces that he enjoys playing. Ultimately, he is most looking forward to playing “Tarantella.” According to David, this song can be described as “lively and playful, but also shows depth and darkness in the piece and [he] [thinks] that will really connect with the audience.” If you enjoy this year’s piano solo, make sure to tune back in the following years for a different musical experience.
Mac Fisher – Vocals and Guitar
This year will be Junior Mac Fisher’s 3rd year in a row playing guitar, although this time with vocals. The last two years Mac has done an exceptional job taking multiple songs and mashing them together to showcase his talents on guitar. This year he will be covering “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” by John Mayer. In preparation for the show, Mac typically practices the song in full around 2-3 times a day in addition to his regular practice time. As an experienced musician in the variety show, Mac says, “If you’re thinking about auditioning do it. It’s not nearly as nerve-racking as you think, and people don’t judge as much as you think they do.”
Everrett Pfeifer – Singing
As a first-time performer, senior Everrett Pfeifer will be singing “Stuck in the Middle with You” by Stealers Wheel. Although this is Everrett’s first time performing at the variety show, he is also a member of the drama company and played Hercule Poirot in the production of Murder on the Orient Express this past fall. Among acting and singing, Everett’s talents also include playing the guitar; however, he is looking forward to singing in the variety show. “I just thought it’d be fun,” says Everrett.
Jeremiah Korie – The Nation Station
Jeremiah will be putting your knowledge of the flags and countries of the world to the test with his “witty and matter-of-fact performance.” Jeremiah’s act stems from his interest in the world at large, but specifically with his love for soccer. Each player has statistics which include the flags and origins of the countries, and over time Jeremiah has become very familiar with them. While this is an amazing learning experience for some, “this act also seeks to display the diversity of the big, beautiful planet and hopefully implant in others my knowledge of the world,” says Jeremiah.
Zack Patton – Singing an Original Song
Zack has been playing guitar for five years now, performing at the variety show for three, and working with a vocal coach for two years in order to blow the crowd away with his self-written song, “Daggers.” Last year Zack was a member of the band OutofSync, but says that this year will be “a completely different show than everyone’s expecting.” The song “Daggers” was produced and released on Spotify in the spring of 2023. Since it is no longer on the app, make sure to purchase tickets to the show so you don’t miss a one-of-a kind performance like this.
