Every year, the Green School Club of Fallston High School dedicates time and resources towards their community; this year is no different. This past Friday, March 20th, club members met to create an array of art and environmentally benefitting projects in preparation for the Bel Air Garden Mart. Mrs. Cummings, adviser of Green School; Maddy Burch, president of Green School; and Rayna Chen, Vice President of Green School, all prepared an enriching one-and-a-half-hour-long festivity!
The Garden Mart is an annual celebration and appreciation for environmentally friendly items and resources via the community. Green School Club has thus far created bird houses, tie blankets, tote bags, and now hand-painted rocks, as well as custom clay bombs. The goal of this sale is to represent the good in not only humans, but also nature, by creating appreciative art that can be functional and beneficial all year round.
During Friday’s meeting, many students painted 1 or more rocks, including Mrs. Cummings herself, pitching in a total of 4! The point of the rocks is for an environmentally friendly decoration that provides a pop of color, custom to the person’s interests. Back during the pandemic, it was especially popular, creating an even more widespread appreciation for craft and creativity.

As well as hand-painted rocks, there were clay bombs hand-made as well throughout the meeting. Clay bombs are created to hold an assortment of seeds – wildflowers, etc. – as an easy way to deposit seeds in an environmentally friendly manner. You simply bury the ball of clay within the soil and let nature take hold of the rest. It is often that people are unable to find time or resources to do the proper method of planting, so it’s a very much avoided topic; but with clay bombs, the community is provided a hands-free and safe way to give back to the earth.

With all the vigorous preparations done at the past meeting, the club is no doubt ready for the Garden Mart this May. Thank you to all those who attended this meeting and contributed to our cause!
