Best Things to Do When You are Sick

The midst of winter has arrived, and as the ground freezes and people are forced indoors, the peak of flu season has approached us. While some are lucky enough to stay healthy until spring, most of us aren’t as fortunate, as our immune system plummets and we succumb to illness. However, there are fun things one can do on a sick day to pass the time.

  1. Catch up on Your Favorite TV or Book Series

With the business of daily life, it’s hard to find time to do things to relax. So, when you’re sick, you have an easy excuse to sit around and watch TV all day. I am currently watching Gilmore Girls and reading the series Throne of Glass, by Sarah J. Mass, both of which I highly recommend.

2. Make Hot Chocolate

Warm drinks are the best way to soothe a dry, sore throat. If tea and honey isn’t your favorite, making a cup of rich hot chocolate is a great alternative. Plus, marshmallows are proven to act as a great way to soothe a dry throat, as the gelatin in them coats your throat.

3. Spend Time with Your Pets

I always feel terrible when I’m having a busy day and can’t spend as much time with my dog as I’d like to, so I always make it up to her on my sick days. Pets are truly the most comforting when you’re not feeling well.

4. Try a New Recipe

Soups and warm foods are extra soothing when you are sick, and what’s even better is when it’s homemade. If you’re feeling up to it, try making a soup. A homemade chicken soup will cure any sadness that comes with being ill.

5. Get Lots of Sleep

It is very well known that the rigorous routine of a teenager leaves us sleep deprived and miserable. When you’re sick, no one can judge you when you make up for all the late nights and early mornings by sleeping for 12+ hours.

While all of these things are great ways to take care of yourself while you are sick, it is important to remember to take care of yourself even when you aren’t running a fever. The only way to stay healthy is to take time out of your day for yourself, instead of neglecting your body and mind.
